The series, in its inaugural year, is in collaboration with Columbia University Institute for Religion, Culture, & Public Life (IRCPL). Art and Architecture
This collaboration between Columbia University School of the Arts and Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) focuses on the study and incubation of contemporary overlaps between the disciplines of art and architecutre. Featured guests in the ongoing series of joint lectures, performances and screenings include Doug Aitken, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Thomas Demand, Michelle Fornabai, Liam Gillick, Josiah McElheny, Heather Rowe (’01SOA), Galia Solomonoff, and Andrea Zittel. > >
Creative Writing Lecture Series
Now in its fourth year, this series brings distinguished writers to Columbia for original talks on literary craft. The writers are diverse and brilliant, with a wide range of artistic strategies, and each talk turns into a short course on the challenges of making vital literary art. Among our past guests are George Saunders, Zadie Smith, James Wood, Jonathan Lethem, Lydia Davis, Michael Chabon, Lydia Millett, and Aimee Bender. Series director is Writing Associate Professor Ben Marcus.

Nonfiction Dialogues
Now in its sixth season, this series is a student-initiated evening series in which Writing Professor Lis Harris interviews distinguished nonfiction writers about their work and careers. Past guests have included Ted Conover, Ian Frazier, Philip Gourevitch, Adrian Nicole LeBlanc, Oliver Sacks, Stacy Schiff, Jean Strouse, Judith Thurman, Calvin Trillin, and Tobias Wolff. > >

A presentation of original productions and a festival of new plays by emergeing artists from the MFA Theatre Arts Program.This season, discover fresh perspectives from young actors, directors, and playwrights engaged in discovering the future of theatre. Seminars take new approach to the question of cinema at the moment when cinema is said to be in decline. Where has it been seen and where will it be spaced in the future -- as theoretical construct, national culture, material object, artistic work, social practice and space of exhibition. On Set with French Cinema
Since 2003, this program has given French directors opportunity to lead master classes at prestigious universities. Directors share their experiences as filmmakers, directors of actors, screenwriters, and producers with future American film professionals. Guests at Columbia include Claire Denis, Benoit Jacquot, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Claude Lelouch, and Bertrand Tavernier. > >

Columbia University Cafe Arts is a series of informal discussions about the questions surrounding art fields today, led by Columbia University's foremost professors.
