Theatre Arts: Voice and Text I

Professor:

Andrea Haring

The aim of the voice work is to free the actor from vocal limitation and develop the voice to its full potential. The first semester's work consists of learning a logical progression of breathing and voice exercises.

Parallel work on text connects thought, word, and voice with autobiographical storytelling, haiku and a variety of poetic texts. The work is based on Kristin Linklater’s revised and expanded 2006 edition of Freeing the Natural Voice: Imagery and Art in the Practice of Voice and Language (Drama Publishers).
