Columbia Streak at Spirit Awards: 9th Screenplay Nomination in 4 Years

The Film Program of the Columbia School of the Arts is thrilled to announce our 9th straight nomination in the screenwriting category at The Independent Spirit Awards.  Our deepest congratulations go out to our alum, Phil Johnston ('04 SOA), for his nomination for Best First Screenplay for CEDAR RAPIDS, directed by Miguel Arteta, and produced by Alexnader Payne, Jim Taylor and Jim Burke.

Phil Johnston worked as a broadcast journalist for eight years, earning three Emmy Awards for his work, before becoming a filmmaker. He holds a BA in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MFA in film from Columbia University.
