Columbia Theatre Heads to the 2013 Tony Awards
The Columbia University School of the Arts Theatre Program is thrilled to announce that the work of several alumni and faculty will be recognized at the 2013 Tony Awards©.
Drama Desk Nominations for School of the Arts Alumnae
Two School of the Arts Theatre Program alumnae were nominated for 2013 Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Direction of a Musical.
Theatre Alumna Wins IRNE Award
Rebecca Harris (‘97) is the winner of an IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) Award for her supporting role in the new play Mrs. Whitney by John Kolvenbach, at Merrimack Repertory Theatre last year.
 
Other MRT credits include Fabuloso and The Missionary Position.
Adjunct Faculty Peter Lawrence Receives Tony Honor
The Theatre Program at Columbia University School of the Arts is excited to announce that Peter Lawrence, a member of the adjunct faculty in the Stage Management Concentration, has been selected by The Tony Awards Administration Committee to receive 2013 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre.
Lucille Lortel Award Nominations for Columbia Alumni and Faculty
The Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were created in 1985 by the Off- Broadway League. The Lortel Awards recognize excellence Off-Broadway by honoring the invaluable contribution of artists to the theatre community.

Faculty Carol Rocamora Publishes New Book on Chekhov
Anton Chekhov: A Life in Four Acts, by faculty Dr. Carol Rocamora, is a biographical narrative and the first book of its kind to focus solely on Chekhov’s life in the theatre. Rocamara is the author of three books based on Chekhov and his work, all of which have been published by Smith and Kraus.
Beau Willimon's ('03) New Series Premieres on Netflix
House of Cards, a political drama created by Beau Willimon ('03 SOA), premiered this month as the first series made exclusively for Netflix. The show stars Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright and Kate Mara. Cards' entire first season was released on February 1, and a second season is currently in production.
 
Willimon has previously written films for Warner Bros., Fox 2000 and Summit Entertainment.
Faculty Kelly Stuart Wins Saroyan Prize
Theatre Faculty Kelly Stuart has won the Armenian Dramatic Arts Alliance (ADAA)’s 3rd Biennial William Saroyan Prize for Playwriting for her play, Belonging to the Sky. The $10,000 grand prize was announced and presented at ADAA’s memorable awards event at the Pasadena Playhouse.
 
Stuart is also a member of New Dramatists.
