Film Program Alumni and Faculty premiere and compete at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, from September 6 -16, 2012. The films include:

Film faculty Trey Ellis has been named to the 2012-2013 class of Alphonso Fletcher Sr. fellows by The Fletcher Foundation, a private charitable organization created to develop a more just society with more equal opportunities for more of the population.

Motherland, by Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program alumnus Shariq Siddiqui ('11 SOA) won the Audience Prize for Best Short Film at the first edition of the Champs-Elysées Film Festival. The festival ran June 6 - 12, 2012 in Paris, and was co-presided by actors Lambert Wilson and Michael Madsen.

Under, directed by Mark Raso ('12 SOA), written by Raso and Jake Crane (4th year Screenwriting) and produced by Jean-Marceau Sécheret ('11 SOA) won a Gold Medal in the Narrative category at this year's 39th Annual Student Academy Awards.

The feature film Aquí y Allá, written and directed by Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program alumnus Antonio Méndez Esparza (’08), has taken top prize at La Semaine de la Critique (Critics Week) at the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival.
