Excerpts and samples of Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry from the Columbia University School of the Arts Writing Program, Class of 2011.

INTRODUCTION
Anthology, from the Greek: anthos (flower) and legein (to gather together); a bouquet.

Indulging the metaphor: the Thesis Anthology 2011 is a fantastically mixed bouquet of wildflowers, hothouse flowers, lush greens, stark branches, roses with thorns, roses without thorns, and thorns without roses. The individuation and variety of writing styles, voices, forms, ideas, and visions together create one book; a fantastically mixed sampling of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. To further indluge the metaphor: a far-reaching range of writers working together creates one community. The writers represented on these pages have inspired, supported, taught, and learned from each other with generosity of mind and spirit. Together they celebrate. Together, but each distinct, they are celebrated in a book worthy of their efforts: The Columbia University MFA Thesis Anthology 2011.
